How a spot is won

Nothing is charged to be evaluated or to receive an offer. The deposit is the first money that moves. There are no tryouts: staff review the game video, speak to the coach, and read combine testing results where a player has them.

The standard

The review answers one question: does this player play at the top tier for their birth year in a competitive league.

Three things count, in this order.

  1. A full game on video. Not a highlight reel: a shift-by-shift read of a real game, as a link.
  2. A coach who will take a call. One is required; a second reference is optional.
  3. Combine testing results, where the player has them.

What counts for nothing: a club's reputation, a region, or who you know. The people who look have hockey backgrounds, and none is affiliated with the applicant's club. For the youngest birth years, 2015 and 2016, AAA means the top tier that exists for that age in the player's region; for girls, the top tier in the girls' game, whatever its label.

The evaluators, by name and background, the standard for 2015/2016-borns and for girls, whether a highlight reel is ever accepted, the acknowledgement time, the decision window and the first-offer date per tour are published before any deposit is taken. To confirm

The timeline, dated

Acknowledged

Within 2 business days of a complete application: the video received, the coach reachable.

Decided

Within 3 weeks of a complete application.

Offers

Go out in waves from a published date, per tour. An offer is open for 7 days from the day it's made.

The deposit

Accept the offer and pay the USD 500 deposit inside those 7 days, and the spot is confirmed. The four instalment dates are set that day.

The acknowledgement time, the decision window and the first-offer date per tour are PSI's figures, published with the standard above.

Position balance

Every team is built as fifteen skaters and two goalies. We fill skaters and goalies separately, so a skater is never offered a goalie's spot. Apply as the position you play. To confirm

Ice time

The ice-time rule, word for word, is published before any deposit is taken. The shape of it: on tour, everyone plays; lines roll in the round robin; both goalies start games, and with five or six games each starts at least two; power play and penalty kill are the coach's call; this is not a showcase where a top line double-shifts. Whether it changes in a medal game is published with the rule. To confirm

Who can apply

Players born 2012 to 2016 who play at the top tier for their birth year: boys, and girls born 2012 to 2014 for the girls teams once the host confirms the bracket. Spring tours fall in playoff and championship weeks in several leagues; check your club's calendar before you apply. Whether a player may apply for more than one team is stated on the application.

The lineup card, in words

17 spots: fifteen skaters and two goalies. A spot is taken when a deposit lands, never by an application. Taken spots show initials only, with the family's permission. Open spots are lit.

The five stages

The same five words the family portal shows, with what happens between each.

  1. Applied

Ten minutes with a parent, or a nomination from a coach: position, current team, a link to one full game on video, and a coach who will take a call. Saved as you go. Nothing is charged.

Free · acknowledged within 2 business days
  2. Offered

By email, for one team, with the price and the date the offer expires. A spot not taken by then goes to the next player evaluated.

  3. Deposit

An offer is open for 7 days from the day it's made. Accept it and pay the USD 500 deposit inside those 7 days, and the spot is confirmed. The four instalment dates are set that day.

If you are nominating

For club coaches. Your name is on the nomination, so here is exactly what it puts your player into.

A PSI Selects team is one team of seventeen for one birth year, with a PSI-appointed head coach, at a European host tournament. The level is the top tier for the birth year; the review is one full game on video, a call with you, and combine results where they exist.

What it takes from you: a link to a full game, and a call. The family does the rest, and the family is never sold to hard: an offer names its price and its expiry, and nothing is charged until they accept it.

You can nominate more than one player. Spring tours fall in playoff weeks in several leagues; the dates are on every team page. If you would coach on tour yourself, the PSI bench is where that conversation starts.

A person reads every nomination.
