Who is with your child

What a careful parent asks before the deposit, in the order parents ask it. Where a fact is still PSI's to set, the sentence says when it is published; nothing here is guessed.

PSI has run 58 youth hockey events across Canada and the US since 2021, as of September 2026, under licence to the Sports Illustrated brand.

At a glance

Adults with every team

A head coach, an assistant, a tour manager and a full-time local guide; a minimum number of screened adults, always, published before any deposit is taken.

Adults to players

One adult to a stated number of players, set against the USA Hockey SafeSport range of one adult to five to eight players, and published before any deposit is taken.

How you reach them

A number in Europe and a number at home, with hours, sent to every family before departure; a note and photos from the tour manager every evening.

The hotel

Named on each tour page before any deposit is taken. No star rating is claimed.

Insurance

Travel medical insurance that covers ice hockey is required for every player and uploaded to the portal.

How it is paid

By card through Stripe: the USD 500 deposit when you accept an offer, then four monthly instalments, the last 60 days before departure.

The minimum adults per team and the ratio are PSI's figures, published before any deposit is taken. To confirm

The adults

Named roles, not badges. The adult roster for every tour is sent to every family before departure.

Program director

Tharindra De Silva, who runs PSI and reads the inbox.

Tour manager

PSI staff with the group from the arrival window to departure, named to every family before departure. The daily note to families at home comes from the tour manager.

Head coach

A PSI-appointed coach, not a volunteer parent coach, with a playing and coaching record you can read on the PSI bench. Each team's coach is assigned from the bench before any deposit is taken; the team meets its coach on a call before anyone flies.

Assistant coach

PSI tour staff, named to every family before departure.

Local guide

Full-time with the team for the week in the host city: the rink, the hotel, the outings, the transfers.

Screening

Every adult with the team is background-checked and trained to a stated standard: SafeSport in the United States, Respect in Sport in Canada. A woman travels on every girls team — confirmed before any deposit is taken. The standard, the ratio and the minimum adults per team are published before any deposit is taken. To confirm

Rooming and the two-adult rule

Players room with teammates of their own birth year, two to four to a room. No adult is ever alone with a player. Room checks are made by two screened adults, and lights-out is a time, not a suggestion.

A player whose parent is on the trip rooms with the team by default, so there is one team and one supervision picture, or with the parent if the family asks. For the youngest teams, born 2015 and 2016, a higher adult ratio or a designated guardian per player.

The rooming rule, the youngest-years rule and the parent-on-trip default are published before any deposit is taken. To confirm

Medical, concussion and emergency

A medical form for every player before departure: allergies, medication, the family doctor, and consent to treat. Staff carry the medical kit and the forms. Medication crosses the border in its original packaging with the prescription letter.

The return-to-play call after a suspected concussion is made by a parent and a medical professional, never by the coach alone. The emergency contact tree is the head coach, then the tour manager, then PSI at home, with the numbers issued to every family before departure.

Whether a trainer or first-aider travels with every team, and the concussion protocol word for word, are published before any deposit is taken; the hospital the guide uses in each city is published to every family before departure. To confirm

Phones

PSI's phone rule on tour is published here and in the portal before departure. The shape of it: phones allowed, collected at lights-out by the tour manager and returned at breakfast; no phones in the dressing room; a daily note and photos to parents come from staff, so the player does not have to be the news service. To confirm

How you hear from the tour

A note and photos from the tour manager to every family, every evening. A number that answers in Europe and a number that answers at home, with hours. A parent reaches the head coach first, then the guide, then PSI at home.

The named contact at home, with hours in ET, is published before any deposit is taken; the channel for the daily note and the privacy rule for photographs of other people's children are published to every family before departure. To confirm

Documents, permits and insurance

The portal checklist carries four kinds of document: passport, insurance, medical and consent.

  • Passport validity under the Schengen area's rule — the exact rule, quoted from the official source, is published before any deposit is taken.
  • ETIAS, the EU's travel authorisation for Canadian and US citizens, if it is in force for the 2027 dates.
  • A consent letter for a player travelling without both parents.
  • The federation travel permit. Your federation may require a permit for a player to play abroad: USA Hockey has a foreign travel permit, and Hockey Canada branches a permission-to-travel process. Whether either applies to a PSI Selects player, and who files it, is confirmed before any deposit is taken. A PSI Selects team is not a Hockey Canada or USA Hockey sanctioned team, which affects whether the federation's insurance follows the player; that is why travel medical insurance that covers ice hockey is required for every player.
  • Trip-cancellation insurance is recommended: the deposit is non-refundable and the refund rule is dated from departure.
  • Photo consent, in plain words, is part of the application and printed on Terms and refunds; the public lineup card shows initials only.

Which documents PSI files and which the family files, PSI's affiliation with either federation, whose liability policy covers the team on tour, and whether the organiser's insurance covers visiting players are published before any deposit is taken. To confirm

Money and refunds

Read this before the deposit.

Price

Every 2027 price is on its team page before you apply, in US dollars for Canadian and US families alike.

The offer and the deposit

An offer is open for 7 days from the day it's made. Accept it and pay the USD 500 deposit inside those 7 days, and the spot is confirmed. The balance comes in four monthly instalments, the last one 60 days before departure.

How it is paid

Nothing is charged to apply or to receive an offer. You pay by card through Stripe when you accept an offer, and the instalments are charged to the same card on their dates. If PSI cancels a tour, every dollar comes back, the deposit included.

If plans change

The deposit is non-refundable. Beyond it, the refund ladder is dated from departure and printed in full on Terms and refunds before any deposit is taken, with the minimum roster a team needs to run and the go/no-go date.

Not in the price

Flights, never. Travel medical insurance that covers ice hockey, required for every player. Lunches and spending money.

Questions families ask

Who can apply?

Players born 2012 to 2016 who play at the top tier for their birth year: boys, and girls born 2012 to 2014 for the girls teams once the host confirms the bracket. Whether a player may apply for more than one team is stated on the application.

Two players, two birth years?

At Prague and Finland the teams travel the same week; at Innsbruck each birth year has its own week.

Do the dates clash with our season?

Spring tours fall in playoff and championship weeks in several leagues. The dates are printed on every team page; check your club's calendar before you apply.

Flights?

Never included. Each family books its own inside the arrival and departure windows, which are published before any deposit is taken. Whether PSI offers a group flight is stated with the windows. A stick travels as oversize baggage.

What does the player bring?

Full equipment. Jerseys and socks are provided, so no club colours. Helmet and glove colour rules, where the organiser has them, are on the tour page.

Spending money and lunches?

Lunches and spending money are not in the price. A planning range per day is published with the itinerary.

Is PSI Selects sanctioned?

A PSI Selects team is not a Hockey Canada or USA Hockey sanctioned team. What that means for travel permits and insurance is in the documents block above, and PSI's affiliation, if any, is stated there before any deposit is taken.

What does the player keep?

The kit: home and away jerseys, tracksuit, hoodie, backpack, hockey bag. The team photo, and the game photos if a shoot happens.
